iContactsImporter lets you import your contacts (or address book) from another phone or Laptop/PC to your iPhone. If you have just bought a new iPhone and don't want to type hundreds of your address book entries from your existing phone again, iContactsImporter is the app for you. In just a few taps you are set.

Features:

  • Imports contacts from .csv (comma separated values) file
  • Automatically maps the address book fields from your .csv fileĀ (e.g. Postal code -> ZIP code)
  • Gives you choice to adjust the mapping.
  • Creates a new group for your imported contacts

iContactsImporter imports your contacts from a .csv file. Most of the handset providers have a PC suite (e.g. Nokia, Sony Ericsson etc.) from which you can easily export all your contacts to a .csv file. You can also do the same from most of the computer applications (Outlook, Thunderbird etc.) and other mobile devices (Palm etc.). Here's the step-by-step guide to import your contacts

Export your existing address book to .csv file (refer to your mobile handset manual for details). For e.g. if you want to bring your contacts from a Nokia phone, you can use the Nokia PC Suite to first export your contacts from the Nokia handset to a .csv file.

Upload the .csv file to an FTP site. You can get some details on what is an FTP site and how to upload your files to one of the FTP site here - Click here

Launch iContactsImporter by tapping the icon on your iPhone.

Enter the access details to the FTP site (username, password and the csv filename).
FTP URL: The FTP site where your csv file is located. (e.g. ftp://ftp.test.com)
FTP Username: Your username to access the FTP site (e.g. guest@test.com)
FTP Password: Your password to access the FTP site
Address Book filename: The .csv file which is the address book you want to import (e.g. MyNokiaHandsetAddressBook.csv)

Tap the Download File button to start the download.
If for any reason, iContactsImporter is not able to access the FTP site or the csv file, it will indicate an error. In case of an error, check if you username/password/filename is correct and the file actually exists on the FTP site.

iContactsImporter will read your csv file and automatically map the fields from your csv file to your iPhone fields. Please note that the first row of your csv file are considered field titles (e.g. First name, Last name etc.). You will be presented with the mapping table of the fields
In the above, you will notice that iContactsImporter has mapped Title field from your csv address book to Prefix field on your iPhone. Similarly First name is mapped to First name, Company field is mapped to Organization.
Whenever iContactsImporter is unable to find an appropriate match for your csv address book field, it will map it to Notes field on iPhone.
You can adjust the mapping or choose to to delete the fields which you do not want to import. Just tap on the arrow (>) of the field you want to change the mapping.

If you tapped the arrow (>) to adjust the mapping (as described in above step 2.6), you will be presented with all the available iPhone fields.
The check-mark indicates the field which is currently mapped. You can tap on any field of your choice and the mapping will be updated.
Tap the 'CSV~iPhone'(Map) button on the top left to return to the mapping table once you are done.

Tap 'Next' on the top right (screen shown in step 2.6) and you will be asked to choose the date format which is used in the csv file.
If you don't have any dates to import, simply tap 'Next' without choosing any format.

After you tap 'Next' on your date format selection screen, you will be asked to enter a group name.
A new group with the above name will be created and all the imported contacts will be added to this group. This will make it easier for you to manage your imported contacts.
The filename is used as a default group name. If you do not want to create a separate group and simply want to import all the contacts in the main address book, just leave the group name blank.

2.10  Tap 'Import' to begin

Tap 'Import' and you are done!
The iContactsImporter will start importing. The time taken to import will depend upon the number of contacts in your address book and the number of fields being imported.

If the import was successful, you will see:
